The Index Battle
Yahoo the number of pages indexed by both Yahoo and Google differs in number to a larger extent. Yahoo indexes pages twice the size of those Google indexed.
But during last year, a considerable change was observed; perhaps Google has been somewhat flexible in its strategies. A huge crawl of the web pages was performed and while it still states ‘Searching 8,168,684,336 web pages’ on the Google home, it is noticeable that they have indexed a great number of pages.
Taking into consideration that Google has unique policies for recently indexed pages, (or say: no PR so page rank is not considered when deciding about the position of the page) you can observe countless PR0 pages graded higher that weren’t in the listings before. At the same time several sites with the higher PR showed lower rankings. If Google indexed almost twenty to thirty percent more pages then this indicates the drop off in number of visitors. These fresh pages get listed, but the number of searches has not improved. It is remarkable to observe how Google now made a quite profitable choice to react to Yahoo’s enlarged index.
A leader at times has to blow a competitor in the face so as to retain the authority. Google simply punched Yahoo, though it seems to a small blow, but of course, we can expect much more from Google.
